What is the cricket run rate?
Run rate shows how quickly a team is scoring. It is the number of runs divided by the number of completed overs. A full over has six legal deliveries, so three extra balls mean half an over.
Formula: Run rate = Total runs ÷ (legal balls faced ÷ 6). For example, scoring 90 runs in 10 overs gives a run rate of 9.00.
In a scorecard, 18.3 overs means 18 overs and 3 balls. It does not mean 18.3 decimal overs. This calculator separates the numbers to avoid mistakes.
Frequently asked questions
Does a wide ball count as one of the six balls?
No. A wide does not count as a legal delivery. The run total includes any runs credited to the batting team.
Can run rate be higher than six?
Yes. Teams can score more than six runs per over through boundaries, running and extras.
